Del Mar Hoodz 2011 Beach Touch Tournament – Result

We are pleased to announce that for the second time running that the Santa Monica BeachBoks have succeeded in winning the Del Mar Hoodz Touch Tournament.

Del Mar Hoodz Beach Touch - 2011

The tournament featured 8 teams, mostly from the greater San Diego area, divided into two pools. Two of those teams were represented by the 14 BeachBoks (plus Ronan from San Diego) that made the trip down. Instead of splitting our numbers for the teams, we elected that all 15 players would play in both pools. This meant we had a large number of subs, but also that we would be playing continuously all day. This resulted in the BeachBoks taking out first place for both pools, with 5 wins and one draw to the host side.

This meant that the BeachBoks could either play both semi-finals at the same time, or play ourselves in one semi. The choice was made to have BeachBoks 1 (skins) vs BeachBoks 2 (shirts) play a “warmup” game for one semi, meaning a finals berth was guaranteed. The other semi was Hoodz 1 vs Hoodz 2, which Hoodz 1 ultimately won.

The final was Santa Monica BeachBoks versus the Del Mar Hoodz 1. The BeachBoks gained an early lead with classic BeachBoks’ quick hands out wide to Billy, however some communication problems allowed the Hoodz to gain a 2-1 lead. The BeachBoks pulled back into the lead with some great individual efforts from Travis, Nick and Spenser. Solid defense held that lead and the BeachBoks were victorious 4-2.

For their efforts the BeachBoks were proud to be the first to place their name on a new trophy for the tournament.

MVP for the BeachBoks, and all round nice guy was Nick Regas, who’s relentless energy and drive kept the BeachBoks in the competition.

Touch Tournament – Dog Beach

This Saturday is the Del Mar Hoodz 2011 Beach Touch Tournament.

The BeachBoks are taking a team (or two) down to maintain our winning record at this tournament. The last time the BeachBoks competed we won… making us the only team other than the hosts to be victorious. From that team Travis, Hilton, Justin (our San Diego ringer) and I will be returning.

This time round we will have more numbers and more speed on the sand. Not to mention some matching shirts, thanks to Above Grade Level.

A post tournament report will be provided. Hopefully with some commentary from Paki himself.

Welcome to beachboks.com

Finally got the site up and running.

Santa Monica BeachBoks have been relying on their Facebook page for far too long. And with the recent changes to the groups settings, there have been a lot of problems with new people trying to get hold of us.

So, the domain has been purchased, and the code written. Now, we just have to provide some great content to fill these pages. We will be pulling some of the finer pictures from the Facebook page to populate a gallery here for all to enjoy.

If you have any links, content or random whatever you want posted on the site, please email it smbeachboks@gmail.com and we will get it up as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Kiwi.
